Every now and then when i go to start my car it will give one loud tick and then nothing else, there is no cranking noise and no repeating tick.. just one tick and then nothing..
the weird thing about this is that when i turn the key over.. it'll tick once.. then i let off the key and turn it over again like 20 seconds later and it turns over fine?
why does it give the one loud tick and then turn over fine the next moment? i do have an under driven crank and i'm curious if the timing could be off because of the install of the under driven crank? the car drives fine.. and has no power lose?
any ideas are welcome? thanks in advance

what do you call an under driven crank? I've seen these symptoms before it is usualy the starter brushes going bad, and eventualy it will quit, the click you hear is the bendix engaging but the motor is not spinning.
The crank pulley should have no effect on the starting.
I think that George is on the right track. It could also be poor connections at the starter or battery, but most likely brushes or an internal contact issue in the solenoid on the starter.
If your connections are all good, I would price out a replacement starter while you can still change it at your convenience.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but just because the connections are tight, doesn't mean they are clean. You prob are looking at a starter replacement.
thanks for the reply.. i know the battery terminals are clean and tight.. i know the starter connections are tight.. but they may be dirty seeing that it is dark out.. i'll have to take a better look later.. thanks for the reply though!

My buddy had the same problem on his 2.2 2nd gen. We replaced the starter and it never did it again.
sounds good.. only bad thing is they cost about 200 bucks.. i hope it lasts till i get around to spending that lol
