Hey I've got a '03 Cavalier, it had a remote starter on it but its been disconnected. Here is the problem, the car starts fine once, you drive it and leave it parked, when you come back it does not crank. Once you disconnect just the positive wire from the battery and put it back it starts.
Another thing I noticed is if you start it , turn it off, and then start it again. You can hear the way the starter motor is working is different from the first start. Kind of longer and harder start.
does the battery have a good charge? when you pulled the remote start system did you leave any wires? it might be grounding out and slowly draining your battery
how long are you leaving it parked between driving it and starting it again?long enough for the car to cool a bit or not long?
reason I ask is Im having a similar issue myself but my issue is the neutral safety switch, I have to swap it out at some point..
if i drive a a good distance and the car is hot sometimes when I get out and come back to restart it it doesnt want to start(doesnt crank, doesnt click ect) it doesnt happen all of the time but when it does (untill i can swap the switch) i put it into neutral to start the car and it starts right up..
I have to figure out how to get the neutral safety switch out, whoever had replaced the transmission sandwiched the bracket for the switch between a braket on the tranny then bolted everything back together..the bracket is supposed to be sitting on the top of the other one (not under it) when its put back together..no i gotta find a way to cut the bracket for the swithch..
this is a good one, I havent gave it much thought but I should have.
we own a 2002 2 door 2.2l auto, the first time the car did not start sience new, it was when my brother borowed it and left the lights on over night, at the time the car was over five years old, we jumped the batery and did not think much of it, than he did it again, shortly after that the batery failed, figured it was about time anyway, he just cut it short, so we got a replacement problem solved, than one morning it hapens again, this time it was not left over night nor the new batery was dead, just felt low, we jumped it and it took a while, too long, had it hooked up to a running car for over half hour, tryed in between and bearely managed to turn it over, later that day it would not start although we ran it for about an hour just fine, so I ruled out the alternator, or it would not run too far, took the new batery for an exchange, they tested it and it was fine so they would not replace it, put it back in the car and it was fine, now this morning after a 45 minute drive, 5 minutes off, and it would not start, take the key out, and just about all the lights in the right part of the dash are still on! ( did that a couple times before ), so now I am started to get woried, I know cars, but not this one, had it sience new never had to do anything but oil changes and an air filter, I wonder if somebody in here may have a clue as where to start.
this morning I disconected the batery, reconected and it fired right up ( that remedy worked on previous ocasions ) like I said at first I did not think much of it but it is beginning not to be reliable so I got to figure out something.
the battery is brand new, we just replaced it because there was a dead cell in it. The car runs perfect after it starts. It's weird because we had it running for 10 min in the driveway in park then turned it off and it started back up again. It's happened twice when driven though.
The cables for the remote start were not taken out, there are just connectors left and it doesn't look like its draining anything. We will be taking it to mechanic to have a look though. I hate how people install these remote starts it just messes up your car so much.
