The ABS and the traction light are coming on constantly, one day they light up, the next their off. I have no clue whatsoever what is going on.
Help please?
Might want to check the wiring harnesses on each ABS sensor on each wheel. Could have a dirty connection or broken wire.
Good luck.
You really need to have someone with a scanner pull the codes (DTC's) to see what's being thrown. The ABS system resets itself if it doesn't detect any problems after a number of "drive cycles", which is probably why the light is off one day and on the next. (Per the '99 service manual, "A drive cycle occurs when the ignition is turned to RUN and the vehicle is driven faster than 16 kph or 10 mph.") I don't know what the relationship is between the ABS and the traction control, but your first step should be to find out what codes are being thrown.
Take it to a shop and have the ABS codes pulled. I believe the traction control is turned off when there is a problem detected with the ABS since they use the same wheel sensors.

Good call! And since the traction control light is on with the ABS light, rich weeks is probably on the right track with his suggestion about the sensor harnesses. (I had an ABS problem once involving the ABS pump, but the traction control light was off most likely because the problem didn't involve the sensors.)
^^ You'll need to get it tested, I had the abs light on and ignored it for a while, then one day I was coming off the highway and couldn't stop due to abs malfunction (Brakes started shuddering horribly). Didn't link it to abs until I replaced brakes/pads/ect... and it continued to happen, but thats what it ended up being. Still haven't got it fixed, just pulled the fuse and no more problems. Not exactly the best solution, but I'd recommend it if you experience any similar problems, at least until you can get it fixed. No abs is a lot better than having malfunctioning brakes.
