Does anyone know what this part is called? I know some people here calls it "water neck:" but when i called the stores around where i live, they gave me a weird look and said there is no such thing as "water neck".
Btw, My car is a 99 Cavalier Z24
Could a leak from this part cause a car to overheat?
If you leak water/coolant from anywhere in the cooling system that would cause a car to overheat.
changed a few of those, they are cheap and autozone has them, a lil tricky to get at just like most GM things, but it is not too bad. just keep sure that metal line frome behind the engine is in snuggly.

thermostat housing like mentioned above
Even though the Thermostat's under the car on the opposite side, like said above, Water outlet, or thermostat housing is a common name.
Go to Autozone and ask for part 815164 its $15.
