Could a leak from this part cause a car to overheat?

If you leak water/coolant from anywhere in the cooling system that would cause a car to overheat.

changed a few of those, they are cheap and autozone has them, a lil tricky to get at just like most GM things, but it is not too bad. just keep sure that metal line frome behind the engine is in snuggly.

Even though the Thermostat's under the car on the opposite side, like said above, Water outlet, or thermostat housing is a common name.
