i have a 2004 cavalier with the ecotec ( if that matters ) and today i was going to my moms and the ABS, Trac off and service light came on. i got to my moms turned the car off and on again and the lights turned off, went to work and it was fine. left work and the lights came on again, turned the car off and on and they came back on twice. as soon as the car starts moving the lights all come on. i havent noticed any difference in the driving, brakes anything. its been snowing all day but the roads are just wet they loaded the roads with cinders idk if that would affect a sensor or anything. . i never felt traction control or abs come on at all.
anyone have any similar problems or would know whats going on. any comments would be appreciated.
u have a sound system?
...my batt gets drained from mine,
n when it hits, it does the same.
ABS light, service light, come on for me.
......i dont have trac. so that not come on for me.
and the lights prolly only comeon when moving because the alternator is not putting enough power at idle, and is not moving while off so no lights. when u moving, and it spools up or whteve u wanna call it. it sends charge to batt, and u get lights.
even if u dont have a sound system. i would check out yur alternator and yur battery.
just my thots.
i do have a system but the lights have never come on when i have it loud or bass up. i didnt even have it turned up loud today. but maybe i will get the alt. checked.
i also found from taking my battery in and our for things all the time, the negative battery hole for skrew was stripped, and the negative wire was loose because of this. causing my battery to not work correctly. idk if that helps any. lol. but i would head up t alocal autozone/advance auto parts or similar and see what they say about your alternator. also, how old is the batt? maybe you need a new one? and if they say alternator fine. ask them if they do scans for engine codes. i believe autozone does. they may or may not be able to diagnose something for you.
Check your Wheel Speed Sensors. Couple weeks ago I had my car in to replace a couple blown struts and they had to rush to get it done before the shop closed and in the rush failed to fully seat one of my Wheel Speed Sensors. If the car is getting input from 3 of the sensors and none from 1 or the remaining one is way off it will turn off the ABS and TRAC systems and illuminate the 3 lights that you are seeing. For the record my car is a 2002 Sunfire with the 2200, but that shouldn't make a difference when it comes to the TRAC and ABS systems.
The wheel speed sensor and ring collect dirt and metal particles. Clean them off.
Also, from the GM service manual, I will paraphrase. When the BCM senses a higher load than the alternator can handle, it bumps up the idle to handle the load. So this sound system drawing too much power is crap. Sensors on a car run at 5V and are tolerant of voltage differences. If the BCM sees one sensor giving signal and the other not, and it knows the throttle is too low to spin a tire at twice the speed shown by the VSS (if you spin 1 tire its going 2x the speed indicated on the speedo) then it sets a trouble code.
I have the same prob. but its too cold out to mess with right now.
