I have a 03 Cavalier ls sport and just last week it got down to 25 below at night and went to drive car and the steering wheel was hard to turn. I talked to a few people who said that the power steering fluid is too thick. I changed it to some thinner stuff and has gone away some but not the way it is supposed to be. Any thoughts?
have you checked to see if there is blocks of ice between your wheel well and tire or any blocks of ice anywhere around there that could be clamping a hose? JMO
Ya there is nothing blocking it. I put it inside at my work for a few days to melt any ice/snow and it still is difficult to turn.
Have you checked to see if the belt is slipping? You could also jack up the front end and see if the problem persists. It could be strut bearings or it could be the rack and pinion failing. It could even be as simply as a bad alignment or as bad as a problem in the column.
How did you change to a thinner power steering fluid? I've never seen it in different viscosity's.
