hey guys question for ya. got a 2000 cav that my g/f hit a guard rail with. bent the rims on the driver side. so i replaced both of them. the front wheel was hit really hard and the back had considerable damage. there is a noise in the front wheel that get louder as you drive faster. any thoughts? i swapped the front wheel to the back to see if would go away but its still there.
Get the front end up in the air and check for wheel bearing play, tie rod play, and ball joint play.
A bad wheel bearing is going to have slop or play if you shake the tire around 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock.
Tie rods are checked by grabbing the wheel at 9 o'clock and 6 o'clock. The movement should be relatively smooth.
Ball joints are bad if the tire has any slop moving directly up and down, as if the tire is hitting a bump in the road.
If all else fails most shops would be happy to do a free inspection, and give you a quote while they're at it.
