2.4 Timing Chain Replacement Question
Friday, January 23, 2009 6:47 AM

I have a question for the experts. I am replacing a timing chain on my 2.4 Malibu and I do not have enough room to remove the exhaust cam sprocket. I can not get a puller onto the sprocket because of the limited room between the sprocket and the strut tower. How do I get this sprocket off??

My first post on this site. What a great site. Have done search and have found lots of good info except how to remove the sprocket. Many Thanks

I always just wiggle them off. Once the bolt is removed they should come off fairly easy.

What mitdr774 said. Maybe tap it a coulple times with a rubber matter if it's sticking.

Thanks to those that replied.

The timing sprocket was just a little tight, one good yank and it was off. Replaced the chain, also, bought a gasket kit for the exhaust cam housing which was badly leaking.

Just finished shampooing the motor and went for a drive. Runs smooth and no leaks.
