so i was driving today and my car started to knock i checked the oil and added some but it will still knock around 2700 rpm i only drove it home now it is sitting until i can look at it there is no engine light but i am still going to borrow one to check to see if it is throwing a code. the knocking is coming from the top left it seems like. anyone have any ideas please help me. its a 99 z24 with 135000 miles on it

my guess would be that its a piston clearance problem (piston hitting the top of the cylinder) or a loose piston rod

it knocks lightly when idle and when i hit about 2700 rpms of shift its really loud almost like a diesel engine

that is not a good sign, sounds like a rod.


was it low on oil before it was knocking?

yes it was a little low on oil
