My 99 Cav just dies the other day and won't start. I can hear it trying to turn over but nothing happens. A few days before it stalled twice while driving at highway speed, it took some time to get it restarted but managed to get it home. While cleaning out my non-running car I noticed two wires under the driver seat that weren't connected. Does this have anything to do with it? If not what are these wires for?
My car is like life, you keep working on it until you die.
Another forum member (Newbies Forum) just had a similar issue (car was running fine, but then suddenly wouldn't start, would crank but not fire). In that case it turned out to be the fuel pump.
Thanks for the quick replies. If the wires are related to the seatbelt then no big deal. i would have never thought it could be the fuel pump might be the problem, I was thinking it would be the starter. I tried my car again today and I noticed a clicking noise coming from the gauges.

your battery is just dead or dying .. may even need to change your alternator. sounds like your car is running off of your battery instead of the alnternator.
how i see it.. it ran fine off of the battery until the battery died, alternator is shot, meaning its not charging the battery. once started the car is suppose to run through the alternator.
also the clicking noise is from a dead battery. and i dought its your fuel pump. turn you key to the on position . but do not try to start it. if you hear a noise from the back seat area, your pump is fine. and yes the wire is for your seatbelt warning light on your gauges.
i like the alternator idea better (more cost effective). my cd player and lights come on no problem, but as i keep trying to turn my car over it sounds like it's running out of juice. i tried jumping it but it still doesn't start i'll make sure the fuel pump clicks on when i mess with it this afternoon

i gave my car another shot today and now it won't even turn over, but there is a loud grinding noise when i try to turn it on which leads me back to the starter thought.

your car will not start if your battery is completely dranined .. it wont even attempt to start... take your battery out and get it tested.. and if you can take out your alt and get that tested also
