I found a pretty good deal on eBay for a replacement power window motor for a 97 Cav. Do I need to buy the motor AND regulator assembly or just the motor?
My preference is to replace the regulator assembly (including the motor) and aftermarket regulators are available reasonably on eBay for the coupes and sedans. (I've never seen any aftermarket regulators for the convertibles, which are different from the coupes.) The motors for all of them are the same and you can replace them separately, but the whole mess is riveted together, which is then riveted to the door, making this task a significant bother. If you attempt to remove the motor from the regulator, you have to secure the regulator arms so the powerful clock spring (that counterbalances the weight of the window glass) won't turn them into lethal weapons. Whatever you decide to buy, ask the vendor if you get the rivets with the kit (either motor or regulator). A service manual is very handy, as is a first aid kit and tetanus shot.
they are a pain to do, but simple overall. cheap too. watch for the spring, they are strong lil guys.... oh and that sheet metal is a bitch so carefull.

Ive changed both of mine in my 99 Z24. Neither time did I have a problem but I have done them on other cars and have the correct tools for the job. Knowledge and tools are your best friend when doing stuff like this.
I just replaced the motor only, which was like $35 from my local Napa.

It's been raining here so I've pulled both motors and regulators out and have 2x4's holding up the windows since they were stuck OPEN. I just ordered a set of motors from eBay... 44.95 for the pair including shipping. Thanks for the help guys!
