I replaced my headlights a couple weeks ago and all of the sudden they quit working. I checked the headlight relay and its good, I also checked the bulbs to see if by some chance they went bad by being touched but they are good as well. I dont really know where to go from here so if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appriciated. Oh, btw my car is a 2001 Cavalier. Thanks
Brandon
check your light switch? maybe fuses? Did you perhaps install something else in the car since the lights?
I have checked fuses. Im down to checking the headlight switch and the wires. I am hoping its the switch but doubting it because my tail lights still come on, weird.
Get a volt/ohm meter and check that you have power at the light socket. You probably don't if they're fresh bulbs.
Then use the ohm function to see that you have a good ground at the light socket. I'm thinking your switch is ok.
The quality of stock GM wiring is pretty pathetic
DO NOT use the ohm function to check ground at the light socket first, you will just end up frying the fuse on your multimeter
check of volt, you should have 12 (or something close to that) at all 3 when the light is switched off
when you turn on your headlights, one of the 3 wires will become ground, when you turn on your highbeams, another one of the 3 will become ground
if they doesn't operate as such, unplug the connector below the batt tray, and test the same thing at the body side of the plug (pink and dark blue) (see attached wiring diagram)
if it's still the same thing, you likely have a switch issue, if it works perfectly at the connector but not at the headlights, then you have a wiring issue (time to unwrap the headlight wiring harness and look for problems)
So I changed the headlight switch and it did nothing. The DRLs flash and then eventually turn off. Im gunna get the test light out and check the dark blue wires on both the headlights
