Some1 who can diagnose - Coolant + Oil spraying from accessory location (Pics)

Popped the hood today and found this... I'm figuring I'm screwed and my head gasket is blown and is leaking oil and coolant OR the water pump is worn out and is leaking (it's orignal) (don't know 100% if oil would leak too).
On the hood and around theres coolant and oil buildup matched to where the accesorry drive system is......
Could anyone can diagnose this?

Working on obtainting an M-Class license... ?? Hint: 2 wheels.

How many miles?Looks to me that there is coolant leaking from the water pump or it could be from the O ring that goes to the coolant tube to the head. The black stuff looks to be from the belt material. What does the oil look like on your dip stick?

from the appearance from what i see is that it is just a coolant purge if the coolant gets above boiling and the system can not cycle it or cycle it fast enough it purges the system

the color of the stain is that of burnt coolant coolant and grime build up on the serpentine belt flinging the coolant (remember the cavaliers use a glycol coolant (glycol is basicly suger

some fuller/better shots of the serpentine side of the engine bay would be a little more help full

more of the area around the coolant over flow resivor

as i posted up last night on another coolant topic

Quote:

i worked on a 99 ln2 (2.2l) that had an issue such as this

the water pump went out which caused the fan to run all the time which burnt it up when we replaced the water pump while sitting still the car would generate enough heat to purge coolant out of the resivor but if we were running down the road the car would keep the constant 195*f

(Edit to original post)
after replacement of the water pump the engine only purged a small amount of coolant while sitting still (we then replaced the cooling fan and solved that issue) but before we replaced the water pump if you ran it any more than 5 miles it would purge the entire system of coolant

when the coolant purged it purged directly on top of the serpentine belt which sprayed it every where the hood (which left lines identical to the ones pictured) , all over the side of the engine, on top of the engine it quickly evaporated and you could smell burning coolant

first i will ask what is your engine temp while the engine is running down the road (after the engine warms up to full temp) and while running parked (again @ full engine temp it should remain around 195*f (or 90*c) whether you are parked or running @ 100 mi/hr (remember temps are relevant to the engine running @ full temp)

it there a smell of burnt coolant?

I would first check your coolant level and your engine oil...

this would give you a tell tell sign of a blown head gasket.

If you have coolant in your oil or oil in your coolant you know there is a problem (you might also have Blue/Grey smoke from your tail pipe white is ok on start up)

next thing to check for if everything else checks out...

no oil in coolant or vise verse and the engine temp is around 195*f ontinue on

check for coolant leak in lines around water pump

this is all the info i can give @ the moment as i am tired if you have any questions or need more info pm me ill trey to answer them

i am no professional on auto repair or diagnostics but just the knowledge of working on numerous cars over my oh so short life...
