I'm trying to fix the wipers [amongst other things] on an old friends' 96 cavalier 2.2 4dr strippy model. The wipers have only worked at the highest speed for 2 years, and randomly came on then off for just a second. They also would not stop in the correct position without some finesse on the switch/lever. After a recent ridiculous snow storm they quit on her. When I hit the switch they would not move, but you could hear a buzzing "rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" noise. I replaced the wiper motor with a salvage yard piece, and it does the same thing. Sounds like the motor is trying to work, but not moving the wipers. Possibly stripped gears in the motor??? Could it be a relay by any chance? If so, where is the relay located? The fuse in the dash is fine, and tested OK with a test light. Could it be the switch/lever? The buzzing noise coming from the dash/cowel area leads me to believe it's the motor or relay. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's her only car, and she's got a storm coming on Sunday and maybe Friday. Thanks
