Vent cable - better aftermarket replacement?

Is it possible to get a better vent selector cable than the oem one? (ie. the one that allows switching between the floor, dash, defrost etc.) The oem one is prone to getting bunched up, which means the vents will be stuck on the dash setting. Apparently this is a common problem on the last generation cars. Is there any way to prevent this from happening, other than to handle the controls with kid gloves?

no aftermarket cable in existance as far as I know. They reason they get hard to turn is the foam on the door inside the hvac box moves or comes loose causing the door to bind with the box. You can fix this by pulling the upper dash pad and pass air duct to get to the door. If the foam is loose, pull it off and reglue it to the door with weatherstrip adhesive. if it is overhanging, trim it with a razor blade.

Does anyone have a tutorial on how to replace these cables? Mine snapped and now get no front defog/defroster. Also does anyone know the part number or what it is specifically called so I can check the price?

Why not use high weight Teflon fishing line, and remake it in the same shield / housing??

I would suggest going to the Sport shops for the good stuff

If its the heater door control, not sure if its the same; NAPA makes one for $13.99. Part# 660-1603. In the catalog it says its for 03-05 sunfire/cavalier.\

That's it, it looks just like the part the dealer showed me. A good 10 bucks cheaper too! Thanks.
