My sunroof won't close all the way. It get stuck open just as it’s about to close. It leaves about 1/2 inch.
I did a search and from what I can tell you have to clean and re-grease the tracks. I did that and still nothing.
My question is:
Is there a way to tighten the cables that controls the open and close of the sunroof?

Same here. I did a search for the issue and the most common responses are to:
assist it down when closing
may need more lube (heh)
something may be caught or jammed in the tracks
I still can't get the damned thing to close. Short of taking the entire thing apart, tinkering, and putting it all back together again (which a. I don't have the greatest skill in putting things back together and b.I'd probably have to remove more than I think and end up becoming so frustrated I'd want to smash the glass with my boot), I haven't found a solution. Am I missing something that was discussed elsewhere?
"Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines."
R.I.P.
No solution for this then, huh?
I'm slightly disappointed.
I have the same problem with my sunroof. Mine will get stuck just before it closes and sometime I can't open it back up. I think the motor is going bad in mine though.
^haha....I've had this problem and have fixed it. Its easy.
take the weather stripping off around the window on the interior and pull down the roof pad enough to see the motor assembly....you dont have to take the whole roof pad off. Next you'll see a little green gear and a "switch assembly" mounted along the side of it. this switch assembly will be held in place with two rivets on a little tab of metal, take the switch assembly in your fingers and bend it up a little.
Whats going on is theres little micro switches that a difference of 0.030" will mean wether it triggers or not, to make a long story short the rivets get a little tired and dont hold the switch assembly close enough to the green gear and you have to bend the little metal tab that the switch is mounted to by the rivets. Bend it up towards the green gear just a little and try your sunroof again. This should be a 5 minute fix.
I have the same problem on mine. It closes almost all the way down (about half of what it is when you have it in the vent position). I took it to a glass place and they said there was something that broke in there. they are still waiting for the dealer to email them a schematic of the sunroof assembly and they are going to point out to the dealership what part they need and then get it.
Unfortunately its going to have to wait till i come back from japan to get fixed. Sooo in may it should be fixed and good as new. Since they have to take the window out to fix it, i may see if they can tint the window while they are at it too...since its off and all.. hehe
if none of this works visit this page...
sunroof help i used that when my sunroof didnt close.. very helpful

You dont need any new parts! Bend the tab back into position...it'll save you $300.00+ What you are describing is exactly the problem......when the little switches dont make contact with the gear it could get stuck in any position....whats going on with your sunroof is the bottom or top tooth isn't touching the gear which makes the roof think its already closed......the roofs dont count revs to close or open they use a cam and switches. If the switches fall back a little they will push out when there not supposed too. Look for the tab next to the bright green gear, bend it up a little.....problem fixed, takes 2 minutes.

Mr. Dearman you are a genius. My daughter is selling her '99 sunfire. Just as people are starting to look at it the sunroof gets stuck. I followed your directions easy, and it worked. Thanks
This is why this site is such a great place!
Having the same issue now....anyone have any pics of where the motor assembly is and what Joshua Dearman is referring to?
My sunroof is closed all the way but wont come up. I have an 02 cavalier coupe and I just looked above the headliner and didnt see what Mr. Dearman was referring to. Any pics?
