Hi everyone,
I have a 2.2L Auto 1997 Pontiac Sunfire with 200,000kms on it. After a pretty tough winter for the car (requiring a lot of throttle and switching pretty reverse/drive when stuck in snow / driving on uncleaned side streets), two new issues have emerged on the car. The car will stall, when on idle/low speeds following a period of driving at high speeds. Furthermore, when accelerating from idle, there is hesitation/stuterring in the engine before it gets going. The car will always restart no problem, but there will usually be 1-2 stalls per 20 minute trip. I'm fairly sure the two problems are connected and I'm fairly sure that the winter demands of the car may have played a role.
I read the forums before posting and it seems the main causes for the problem are:
Dirty fuel injectors
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)
Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires
Now that's a pretty long list and I don't want to spend the time or money to troubleshoot all these issues, I'm actually trying to sell the car.
My question is, given my description of the problem, which items on this list are the most LIKELY causes of my stalling/hesitation (please let it be the one that's cheap/easy to fix!). Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thank You
Anthony
