conventional to synthetic?

I have a quick oil question. I have a 99 z24 with 195000km on it. can I put full synthetic in it? the previous owner im pretty sure always just used conventional and I think the car has always had conventional but synthetic will help it run cleaner, more efficient, and maybe a little more powerful right?. It does not leak enough oil to actually notice spots on the concrete or anything but underneath you can see that it leaks a bit of oil. Its just that a guy once told me that if it usually runs conventional then synthetic will make it leak like crazy. Is this true? thanks in advance

90k miles i started running synthetic. its whole life it ran conventional. no problems at all. it was actually burning a @!#$ load of oil between oil changes running on the cheap conventional crap. started running synthetic, still consumes a bit between changes, but definately less than what it was. some people think that synthetic means that its miracle oil that doesnt need to be changed as often. and thats when people have trouble with it. keep up your regular maintenance schedule and you shouldnt have any problems. i run 10w30 in the spring/summer months and 5w30 in winter. been doin it for the past 2 years and about 25k miles and i regret nothing.

i have always ran synthetic in all my rides, cars and bikes, im down in florida where its hot as ball 366 days a year so i run 3 quarts of mobil 1 high milage full synthetic and 1 quart of lucas oil stabilizer. call me crazy but im a firm beliver of lucas products. i have seen a difference when opening a motor up. never heard of making it leak more.

My suggestion would be to run Valvoline Max-Life semi synthetic 5w-30. Very good oil.

You can run synthetic. There are misconceptions that it has thinner molecules and that it will leak faster, which aren't true. synthetic oil comes out of the ground just like any other oil. and then altered. It is affected less by temperature changes, and doesnt break down as easily as conventional oil. I dont recommend synthetic blends however. I have had both a shell oil representative and valvoline representative tell me that blends are more marketing than anything. Also there is no set guidline on what makes an oil considered a blend. it could be 50% synthetic or it could be 1%. and also never let anyone tell you that you cant go back to conventional oil after using sythetic. I hear that one all the time. IF you are leaking oil and burning oil i have seen good results with the valvoline max life line though.

I switched to synthetic at 114,114 after I bought my car and it ate 2 quarts inthe first 2500 I drove it, it was much better less than a quart per oil change if I don't drive it to hard. I swiched back cuz I was out of town and my girl took it to a mechanic and I guess had sticker shock, even though I paid for it, it ate oil quick again. I wouldn't use Lucas in the winter if you are below 32 for most of it cuz it will thicken up more it's great when it's hot out though
