ABS and ETS problem
Thursday, March 12, 2009 11:29 PM
So heres my problem, my ABS and ETS OFF amber lights keep coming on and staying on but ONLY when I drive in wet weather, when I drive in really cold weather or normal dry weather its fine but when the snow is melting on the roads and my car is being sprayed from the road those two lights come on. Is there a relay or something that is getting wet and trippin out or something? where could I start looking?

My opinion is that you should start by looking at the wheel speed sensors and harnesses. They're the most vulnerable to the road conditions you describe and the ABS and traction control systems both share them.

Take it to a shop or get ahold of a good scanner and pull the codes. Cheapo autoparts store scanners will not pull ABS codes.

"cheapo auto parts store" scanners WILL pull ABS codes IF you get the ABS code scanner..they run anywhere from 100+ up..

autozone will lend normal odb2 scanners for normal codes.. dont let the post above confuse you there are two kinds of scanners

you can either buy one for yourself if you think you will continue to use it and get your worth from buying it or you can go to a dealership or a garage and have them do it.. it will take them about five minutes to pull the code but they will still charge you but the hour.. I just went to the dealership two weeks ago for them to pull my codes for the ABS and they charge 100 for a half hour, hundred 150 for the hour.. and said they doubt they would use the half hour price.. thats when I told them I doubt ill be having them look..

when i got my car inspected last week we found the issue with the ABS light going on and off , turned out the ball joint was bad and would shimmy/shake/ rattle ect ect . causeing the sensor to not always make contact .. once the balljoint was fixed the light stopped comming on..

not sure thats the problem your having but it could be..for them to fix the balljoint for parts and labor the total came to 115. I woulda done it myself but they had the proper tools and saved me about 4 hours of frustration of doing it myself so it may be better to just have a garage take a look at that..most wont carge you for a visual inspection if they think it can get them some money to fix it..
