vent control question
Wednesday, March 18, 2009 4:42 AM
Hi ya'll,
I've got a '03 cavi, and the hvac vent controls have been acting odd. The heater/defrost control seems to work just fine, but when i move the selector to dash vent/output only air still comes out the heater area. It used to work fine until one day last fall it was harder to move to the vent position, then "clicked" and moved. But the air coming hasn't acted right since. So when i put the A/C on for dash vents only, it only has a little air coming out those with more coming out the heater duct. Anyone had this issue, and what was the fix? I looked in a shop manual, it appears that there is a lever that rotates that moves the air door from a cable but i didn't see any adjustments in the manual.
Thanks for your time.
Don

Make sure the knob isn't broken first, then pull the dash trim and check the controls. Make the vent diverter linkage the last thing you check.

Thanks,
It switches between the defrost and heater ok, it just won't put all the air into coming out the dash vents. I'm not sure if it has 1 cable or multiple, i'm guessing that it's the cable that moves the vent door as the other settings seem to work ok.

The mode cable is probably bent and the foam on your mode door is loose or has walked causing the door to bind.

That's pretty much what i was thinking, how hard is it to check that foam? Do i have to pul the whole door/vent assy? It worked fine for a couple of years, then one day it started binding and I put a little more force on it - then the know moved but the dash vents have been stuck at the same level ever since. lol
