For a little over a week now, the ABS, Trac Off and Service Engine lights have been coming on intermittently in my '02 Sunfire Sedan. I had this same thing happen with my '02 Sunfire GT and it was one of the front wheel speed sensors. Between that past experience and reading posts on here, I figure it is more than likely one of the wheel speed sensors. This coming weekend I am going to check the wiring for the sensors and use the air compressor to get rid of any possible dirt or anything in there. If that doesn't fix the problem, I am going to take it to a dealer to have it diagonsed so I know exactly which sensor is bad and than I will order a new one from GMPD and install it myself.
My question is, if I leave the car go like this with the lights on for another couple weeks will it hurt anything? From what I have read in other posts about bad sensors, people drive around for quite a while with these lights on, but I just want to make sure I'm not going to screw the car up somehow.
Thanks in advance.
Have you tried a scan tool? I know most parts stores around here will scan for free.
If you have been like this for that long, and your car is driving fine, I don't see much harm.....but those could also be famous last words.
I went to Auto Zone and they scanned for the Service Engine light, but nothing came up. He said they can't scan for the ABS and/or Trac Off lights.
Yeah, it's been driving fine. I think it will be okay for a little while longer anyway...
the trac light and ABS are prolly due to a bad wheel speed sensor, its should be ok, you still have brakes just not ABS. as for the cel, try replacing the sensor and see if it goes away.
