Battery Cables On A 98

I have a 98 Cav and I've noticed that the negative battery cable on this car is as thin as a pencil.

It's also very short and connects to the battery tray. That point of contact likes to corrode very quickly.

I've been wanting to replace the cheap OEM battery cables with some better aftermarket cables.

Anyone ever done this before? I haven't look it over real well yet, but there's got to be a better place
to attach the negative battery cable. I could attach it to a better spot on the body of the car, or I could
attach it to the engine as well.

Does anyone know if the engine is isolated from chassis ground? I can always break out my multimeter,
but thought I'd ask here first.

Thanks!
Scott

There's usually some ongoing discussion in the audio and electronics area about the "Big 3" upgrade. This involves beefing up the main charging circuit components, including the ground. Even if you're just looking for an OEM repair on the ground, the same ideas apply.

Took a look at the link, I'm after replacing the OEM cables, but this gives me the information that I need to know.

Thanks once again!

The car I purchased was having some electrical problems so I started looking at the same thing. I pulled the cable tray connection and found it was still painted undrerneath. The ground was also thin as you said and the leg of the cable that went to the tray was nearly broken in two. I am not upgrading the stereo, but I am going to ground the alternator as shown and upgrade the alternator to battery connection....gary
