Wont start (2200)
Saturday, April 25, 2009 2:13 PM
Ran and drove fine yesterday. No codes and fuel pump is making noise. It just cranks over like there is a spark or fuel issue.

car is a stock 2000 2200 with 5 speed. Have kept up on regular maintenance but have not replaced coil packs or anything too deep. Any suggestions on where to start?

Cranks over slowly or quickly? Check your battery.

What's funny to me is people bragging about beating Cavaliers in street races.

It turned out to be the fuel pump. Did a pressure test at the fuel rail and got nothing. Weird since the pump was priming, or at least sounding like it.

Hmmmm.... My car has been doing this on and off for like 2 months now... It will start and run fine for weeks... and then one day out of the blue... i will go to start it up (usually only when warm, never acted up when engine was cold and had been sitting), and it just cranks and cranks and cranks. every once in a while it will TRY to fire... but very weak.. just like a slight surge in the cranking....

usually if i let it sit for like 30 min... and then try again, she will fire right up and run fine.... for another few weeks... no issues at all... and then again one day out of the blue it will do this again...

Just today it did it to me at the gas station... drove all day just fine... then shut it off ran inside, came out and nothing... crank crank crank....

so i thought what the heck... and went in and grabbed a can of starting fluid... sparyed just a tiny burst into the intake... and she fired up almost instantly... and has been running fine all day since.....

So that made me think it is a fuel issue. spoke to a buddy... he said that is how his car acted before he replaced the fuel pump...

so came on here to research, and found this thread. So do i really have a dead or dying fuel pump? why would it work fine once it started? or work fine up to a point... and only act up after shutting it down mid drive.

Replaced your fuel filter first. Unless you already did that.

Good Luck
