8th vin digit T and D differences

Hey I was just wondering what the difference is in the 8th digit of the vin # is. I know D is 2.3 OHC and T is 2.4 ohc. My car is a 99 cavalier z24, and i found a block with low mileage that I am thinking of picking up, as long as they match up. the block is from a 99 sunfire gt. its 8th 9th and 10th digits are T,9,X. and my 8th 9th and 10th are : D,X,X. Which is weird because I have a 2.4, and D should mean 2.3 right? Im just a bit confused. Can anyone help?

What is the 10th digit of your vin?

1995 was the only year that a 2.3L was in a 3rd gen J. From 1996 to 2002 ALL of the Z/24s and GTs came with the 2.4L(LD9). I believe during the 96 - 02 time line GM did make a few subtle changes to the 2.4L(I believe they added EGR).

Im a eco guy so im not too keen on the specifics of the Quad-4.

But if your just looking for a block to build up, it should be fine.

all 2.4s are Ts none of them were Ds i think theres something fish about yout VINyou sure you counted right goin across

post up you VIN (don't post the last 6 digits we don't need those)

TXX would be a 99 2.4
but a DXX would be a 99 2.3 (which never happened in 99)
