Do our j-bodies have some sort of recall on our cars for the trunks leaking? My trunk has been leaking ridiculously ever since I got my cavalier years ago. I still haven't found a fix for this. Has anyone else? I had to take my subwoofers and amp out of my trunk so they wouldn't get drenched in water; it was really getting THAT bad.
It is an econobox.
I would expect it to leak over time. Try a new seal and re-aligning the trunk.
thats what i was gonna say. new seals re-align the trunk and look for any spots around the seal that could be rusted. thats another reason it could leak.
On my 97, I found that it was actually leaking around the tail lights. It was easy to fix by simply removing them and cleaning the rubber seals on the light assemblies and mating surface on the fenders. Because of the way the water drains around the trunk, tons of dirt and debris had piled up. I also put some washers on the inside because it seemed like the cheapo "bolts" didn't tighten down enough to keep the seal tight. It's been 6 months and my trunk is still perfectly dry. When I realized how bad it was, there was about 3" of water in the spare well!!!! I had to drill two small holes to drain it out. When I removed the spare, I had to use a BFH to beat the crap out of the retainer because it was so rusted. That was the hardest part of the whole operation. Luckily, it didn't rust the trunk out before I caught it.
It's also a good idea to keep the water channels clean and trunk seal coated with Armor All.
On a side note, when my ex drove this car, I used to give her crap because I thought the putrid smell was due to her throwing cans in the trunk. She had a serious "recycling habit."

I had the same issue with my 04, what I did to find the problem was to dump some water in the channels and follow it down, what I found out was I had a small hole coming in from my tail light I dry everything off and plugged it with some RTV Silicone. No more problems.
