Coolent light / Overheating.
Saturday, May 02, 2009 7:57 PM
on my way to work today i noticed my low coolent light was on,, and i looked at my engine temp and it was 2 notches higher that normal (90 degrees is what it's usually at) i turned on my heater to try to move some heat away from the engine, but it didnt help. but the coolent light did stop glowing.

a co-worker i asked said the thermostat could be stuck closed. anyone else have this problem?

any ideas of what it could be? im going to check the coolent rez tomorrow, i didnt get a chance to today.

thanks in advance.

Low coolant. Thermostat being stuck closed wouldn't make the level in the reservoir go down. You have a leak somewhere.

Once you park the car is there somewhat of a sweet smell? If there is then your coolant is leaking out.

While driving my car it would be fine then all of a sudden it wanted to overheat and then the coolant light would come on. It turned out to be the reservoir cap it was bad. It has an o-ring gasket and when it goes bad it can't hold the pressure so the coolant leaks out and when enough comes out the light comes on. Besides the cap is like $8.00 new so I would try that first.

You should see some type of "water/coolant" leaks as well. Park in a dry spot and once you leave check that spot.
