ok so i have a 2002 cavalier ls sport
recently ive been getting in the car and starting the engine
if i turn on the headlights before putting the car in drive or reverse i dont have hi beams
my headlights work but go dark when i pull the switch back

ive tried 2 other sets of lights

also if after i start the engine i go straight to drive or rreverse without turning on the headlights
the service light comes on (after 3 flashes of the light ) and my lights stay off ( not the check eng )
my headlights will still work but still do not have hi beams

ive also tried changing the drl relay

im confused at this point

good thing is i only drive the car about 15 hours a week

Sounds like either the headlight switch is dead... or your Body Control Module (which controls the Daytime Running Lights) is on it's way out.

I'd start with the headlight switch... it's cheaper.
