Ok guys for once I know what the problem is and how to fix it, but I need to know if using a heavier wieghted oil will help between now and payday (may12th) The timing chain tensioner or chain itself is the problem or at least thats what it sounds like.
2 weeks ago the engine developed a louder then normal tick on the passenger side of the engine, it feels like its coming from the timing chain and so far everything I've read on here that has been the case.
I dont have any time off between now and payday so I need to continue driving my car, but I know that if the chain goes so do my valves and I'm trying to avoid that.........Will using 40W instead of 30W help any, since its lubricated by the oil and I didn't notice it until 2 weeks ago a local garage said to up the wieght on the oil until I can get it fixed..........did he Bullshi* me or will that actually help?

Sadly, heavy oil, even packing it with grease (if that were even possible) will not stop your chain from bouncing around.
Keep driving, it will break and come through the timing cover costing you many more $$'s than simply fixing it will.
This very thing happened to me many years ago, "I'll just ignore that rattling sound" I thought !! Cost me a bucket of money over what the chain would have cost.

No running a heavier oil will not help..It will make it sound less noisy but your problem is still going to get worse..Best thing to do is get it fixed now..I had the same noise..the dealer told me this was normal...One day went to do a oil change and all the oil came out silver..The motor was done and had to install a new one..So just get it fixed.or spend more money later..
It may be worth checking to see of the alternator is the problem. My car developed a ticking noise that ended up being the alternator. I figured this out AFTER i replaced the chain. The easiest way to check is to remove the accessory belt and start the engine for a few seconds to see if the noise is still there.

I understand your question, IF it is the timing chain, sound mechanical advice is to park the car........now.
Or..... take the risk and see if you can make it knowing the bill COULD be substantially higher, you may be lucky and nothing further happens.
