replaced engine and fuel everywhere

After connecting the battery the fuel pump came on and wouldn't shut off. THe intake was full of gas right to the air filter.
I used the old fuel injectors with the new fuel rail, could this be the problem? the old injectors are smaller than the newer ones

Is there a relay or something stuck that would cause the fuel pump to run until i pulled neg. off battery?

I'm not sure about the newer ones, but the older pumps would not shut off until they fully primed. If the fuel line isn't holding pressure the pump would keep running. If the intake was full of gas it sounds like the injectors were spraying all the time.

What year car and what engine?

Could also be fuel pressure regulator..

The car is a 99 GT with small injectors and no EGR valve... the replacement has larger injectors and an EGR valve.
I have the replacement engine in the car, with the original fuelrail and injectors, but I used the newer regulator (at the return end of the fuel rail)
Both engines are 2.4 , but the replacement eingine came from a Toyota Cavalier ( I know, same engine) just larger fuel injectors and larger Knock sensor.
I changed fuel rails so the wire harness would match up to injectors...
I'm happy that the starter didn't turn the motor over or there may have been a large fire (haha)
I did hear the fuel pump come on, but it did not shut off... my buddy could smell gas strongly, and 20 seconds later he could see it flowing down the front of the engine
I'll re-check the vacuum lines to the throttlebody, but if the engine didn't roll-over there wouldn't have been any vacuum anyway, correct?

I read at J B O (j-body of Ontario) that the computer needs to be re-calibrated after an engine is replaced...what process is involved for that?

Thanks guys,keep ideas coming

I'm guessing your key was turned to the ON position??

A fuel pump should NEVER run with the key off. There are even interlocks to turn off the fuel pump when the spark stops should an accident occur. There are also roll over shut off switches as well (though I'm sure you didn't have the car upside down) The pump should only run for a brief moment when you turn the key on and then while you engage the starter. If the car does not start, the fuel pump turns off along with the starter position of the ignition key.

If the key was not on, check your wiring, you've got a serious problem somewhere that MUST be fixed.

The key was on, as the car was left in Neutral for the engine change. The dash lights did not come on,but the clock lit up and the blower motor was running.
I am going to replace the valve at the end of the fuelrail(where the return line is) it came with the smaller injectors, and try connecting the battery again

I've replaced the FPR with original from 99, and no different from before

when you turn the key on can you hear a hissing noise from the fuel rail area?
