Wednesday, May 06, 2009 9:33 PM
Hello LD9 masters, i recently spun a bearing and i bought a crank kit but does anyone know if the LD9 OEM rods are the problem or just the bearing? or should i just get the eagle rods (money is very tight right now and im just trying to get my daily driven car running)

PS i would like to turbocharger it in the FUTURE

my crank kit

i was just trying to figure out if i should hold off on forged rods
1. until i have more money(since i only have about $350 in the bank lol)
2. or until im ready to actually turbocharge it(LD9)

or are the stock rods that bad???

It isn't that the stock rods are "that bad". The 2.4 (LD9) has a considerably longer stroke and narrower rod journals than the 2.3 it replaced. Combine that with oiling system changes that came along when the balance shafts were adopted and your bottom end needs all the help it can get, especially if you're going to boost the engine. If it was mine, I'd save up and get the forged rods. Your method may vary.
