i have an 02 cavy wit the ohv motor and it is leaking oil out of the bottom of the oil filter. this is the third different oil filter in three weeks. two microguard one wix. my brother told me it was the seal of the microguard ones that was making it leak and now all of a sudden the wix one started leaking. each filter has gone on smoothly so i dont see any way that it could be stripped. someone please help me here. im so sick of this problem. thanks for any help
Could a seal accdently peeled off a pervious oil filter and still be stuck to the engine body?
I would defently inspect the mating surface on the engine to see if it's clean.
when my brother put the wix filter on he wiped down the surface with a shop towel which was new of course and its still leaking. we did this on sunday and it was perfectly fine up til yesterday. and i know thats where its comin from cause i watched it come out while the car was running just earlier
I agree with Roy. Take a very good look at the filter mating area. When you say "he wiped it down", that doesn't sound to me like the very thorough examination you should do. Make absolutely, 100% sure that there isn't an old oil filter gasket stuck on there.
Put a little but of oil around the gasket on the filter.
Screw the filter in until it touches the block.
Turn it 1/4 turn more.
That's it.
What's funny to me is people bragging about beating Cavaliers in street races.
are you sure its the filter? The oil pressure is nearby too if you have a push rod engine. If it is indeed the filter is it leaking, is it swelling up at all or does it look like the square seal is pushing out? If so on the later you may have an oil pressure relief valve that is stuck in the bore.
