I have a 97 cavy, just replaced the fuel filter not long ago, 125k miles on the car. Turned the key last night and nothing, turns over but wont start. You can hear the fuel pump normally, didnt last night at all. This was just after I drove it home from work, 30 plus miles. Got it in this morning and turned the key on/off about 15-20 times, nothing. Then on the next time the pump kicks on, the car starts and runs for about 10-15 mins before I shut it off. Tryed as soon as I shut it to start it back up, no fuel pump again. Checked the fuses inside, the relay under the hood, and the connections at the tank itself. Got in the car and turned the key several times, and nothing. Then the pump kicks on, everytime I turned the key on/off from then on. Started the car, shut it off. Tried to start it back up, and nothing. Anybody have a problem like this with a cavalier? I thought is was the fuel pump, but it seems to me like its in the igniton switch. Would be the pump if it kicks on like that? I would say when the pump goes it goes. It wouldnt turn on just when it wants, or would it? Any help would be great, thanks!
Oh and another thing, when the pump kicks on, sometimes it sounds like its getting about half the voltage it should to run properly. And the other times it sounds fine. It seems louder in the car, but I never really listened to it before. But you can hear it in the drivers sear even with the door closed. I think its the pump, I just want to be sure before spending 200 plus dollars and the time to replace it.
Im a new guy, but anybody???
Swap out the fuel pump relay to start.
Dont worry about it guya, I got it on my own. Thanks for the help!
