Power window trobles...

Has anyone said enough is enough and converted to manual windows? I would just swap doors but I got the major problem of having a convertible. If so how much of a pain in the rear was the swap.......chances are this is a dead end topic.

If your car is a third-gen 'vert, there weren't many (if any) made with manual windows. And, the 'vert regulators are unique to that model and not available in the aftermarket. When you say, "enough is enough", what sort of trouble are you having with your power windows that can't be fixed? I've changed motors and regulators, but once done they've been reliable again. Though the regulators are unique, the motors are common and cheap in the aftermarket and that's what normally goes south.

(Just to add a comment here, the 'vert regulators have more travel than the coupes as the glass is slightly taller. The coupe regulator is the same physical size and it will fit, but it won't raise or lower the glass all the way. The main gear arm has a half-dozen or so more teeth on the 'vert regulator.)

Sorry to hear that your 'vert is so bad off. It's too bad, really, as comparitively few were built and if any J becomes collectible, chances are good the 'verts will be there. Many of the 'vert parts are unique and unobtainable, so you shouldn't just toss it. If you have room to store it, I'd say part it out over time and make a few bucks to put into your coupe. Good luck. - Mark

It sounds like you simply need to replace your window motor and your convertible top motors. I've posted detailed instructions on how to do both on this forum. Links follow.

well the car is just shot man, id sell it but its consitered "totaled" by insurance. slight bend in the doghouse, it affects nothing but the insurance company didnt want to fix it. As far as the motor on the vert top its self it works great, i roll with the top down all the time. I am going to fix the car BTW, the wife dont know it yet. She is against it im for it, ive always been for it, since she wont let me get a F-body im gonna fix the J-body. Ive had it 5 years and im kinda parshal to it, 32000 mile to 101000 miles I know the car in and out, whats been done to it and whats gonna need done to it. If you guys know where I can get brand new motors and regulators other than GM that would be great but if not GM parts direct is my only hope. Any who, happy Memorial Day everyone that reads this..

Computer conection sucks and spell checker wont do it job, sorry for my bad spelling.
