Bypass AC on 2000 z22 cavalier
Saturday, May 09, 2009 11:48 AM
Hi,

I've red a few post here about bypassing the AC on a 2200 by simply putting on the smaller strap that the no-ac cavaliers have. However, those threads i red were for pre-2000 cavaliers. I know the tensionner on 2000's isn't located at the same place.

So here's my question: Does this bypassing procedure also work for the 2000+ 2200 SFI's?

Thanks.

Is that the part number for the strap for AC-less cavaliers?

yes. that is the dayco part number for the serpentine belt that bypasses the ac copmpressor.

Step 1, go to auto parts store.
Step 2, go to parts counter
Step 3, ask for belt for 2000 Cavalier, 2.2l, no AC (if they don't have a match, get one for a 98, same part #)
Step 4, success

If you look at the plastic cover over the radiator, there is a belt routing diagram which will show the routing... the only difference with and without ac is the longer belt to go from the water pump over the AC compressor

All done guys. It worked perfectly.

I also took the time to take the radiator and the compressor off the car.
