ok so to start i have a 2000 cavalier with the 2200 motor its throwing this code DTC P0171 Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1........ my question is that is the one after the cat right?? also its been idiling kinda rough could that be a clogged cat?? thanks for the help
also it says heated oxygen sensor sensor 1 bank 1 if that helps any
i think a code like that would be with the sensor in the exhaust manifold
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
thats wat i was thinking to but i just replaced it like a year ago sooo im kinda stumped how it could go bad so soon
Guess what? It's more than likely not the O2 sensor.
What brand O2 sensor? If it's a bosch, replace it with an OE delco sensor.
Check for vacuum leaks.
where would i get a delco sensor?? auto zone and advance only have bosch and thats wat i replaced it with
That code means the engine isn't getting enough fuel, not the O2 sensor is bad.

not really. the engine can surely supply more than enough fuel if it is able to meter (or calculate) all of the air entering the cylinders. that's why somebody would suggest to check for vacuum leaks, because a vacuum leak creates a situation in which unmetered air is entering the cylinders, which creates a lean mixture because the engine only uses as much fuel as it thinks it needs. that would explain the lean code and the O2 code.
