1st gen turbo high idle

Well, I have searched and read everything I can find on idle issues with no luck.

Here is what I have, 86 sunbird gt turbo its gf car she wanted a convertible.

I would have to say it runs good for its age, turbo working fine, smooth acceleration, all regular tune-up maintenance done, here is my issue. I can't seem to fine out why the idle won’t go below about 1200rpm when complete worm. General check for vacuum leak didn't reveal obvious issues, new O2 sensor. Am I missing something? Is this a turbo thing?

Any recommendation welcome.........

Try by checking the tps.It should have the model 500 tbi with the ignition on,eng off use a multimeter to measure the voltage between the tps terminals B and C.The readings should be 0.525volts +0.075. U can adjust this by loosening the screws and rotate the throttle to obtain it.Now if this does not help go to http://www.wellsmfg.net check out diagnostics to read up on TPS.I am think when u do the voltage it should be the same two terminals but can not recall,I do know the voltage should increase/decrease as u move the throttle gradually and not real fast or real slow.Next is the map sensor mounted on the firewall near the blower motor with 1 vacumm line going to it and a electrical plug going into it.U can also do a check on it with multimeter and the same site can show u how! If both these parts check out good then the only thing that may cause the issue may be the idle control valve that screws into the throttle body and is close to wear the hard fuel line goes into it.My chiltons shows pics of this.Hope this helps I figure its prolly the map,or tps and def go to wells site its all step by step with illustrations to explain.

Thanks for the reply,

The TPS checked out fine it turned out to be the IACV not closing properly, new valve , all is good......

Thanks again for your help and the links.

Take care,
