Trunk release

My 2000 sunfire gt was unlucky enough to not come with a trunk release inside the car. I have the button on my key fob and the solenoid in the trunk. I followed the wire that controls the solenoid into my BCM. My question is, can I run 12v through a switch and tap that into the wire between the BCM and the solenoid or will that burn out my BCM?

Yes you can. I did the same thing on my 01 Z24. If you go to the junkyard and grab a push button off a 02+ you can wire it in as you said above. Cut a small hole in the dash. It will be like stock.
