wont go over 20-30 mph?

i have the opportunity to buy a 96 cavalier 2.2 for 250 dollars but it wont go over 20- 30 mph. any ideas on what the problem could be?

My 2000 had this problem. The Transmission connector was bad and had to be replaced. About 100 bucks later (labor included) I was back to driving normally.

Or it could be something more serious... Like the actual transmission being bad.

If it has a loss of power and can only go that fast I would say a serious clogged cat.

If it is a consistent 20-30 MPH I would be more inclined to think fuel filter. Even if it does not upshift it would still go above 30 MPH in first.

sorry for bringing it back from the dead. i have a 2001 chevy cavalier and has this problem only when the ac is on. need help please, thanks
