Hi guys. I need some help finding the gasket that goes between the block and the timing chain housing. It's the gasket right above the crank but sits between the housing and the block, auto zone and oreillys both don't list them, and i don't want to pay dealer prices,so I'm asking for help in finding one. Thanks guys.
To bad I already gave my spare one of those away.
Have you even checked with a dealer on the cost of it yet? You might be surprised.
i needed one too. the only way to get it would be in a head gasket set. thats what autozone and the dealer told me. i just rubber a gasket maker on the one i had and its fine. unless yours is in pieces.
yep that one.I called the dealer they want $50.00, no way for one freakin gasket.and i cant find one on the net.Anybody got any ideas.
I feel your pain. I went to the local GM dealer a few days ago for this gasket, after being told the same thing as you were told by Advance Auto Parts and others. I have a 97 Fire SE 2.4. I was told ~$300 + tax for for the head set which had this gasket. I might as well have invested in another low mileage, used motor. Then, I was told I could also get that gasket in the timing gaskets set for the discounted price of $190 + tax. Ha. LMFAO yeah, right. After refusing to pay those prices, I was offered what I asked for to begin with, the timing-housing-to-block gasket, for $60 + tax. Also discounted. I said thanks, but no thanks. Then, the parts guy confessed that NAPA's Victor brand gaskets were of comparable quality to what he was trying to sell me, and I ended up getting all the timing housing gaskets I originally needed (including the one in question, the ones for the timing cover, water pump, cams, and more) for less than $60 total. I can get you the product #'s or other information if you need. On a side note, does anybody know if it is recommended that sealant be put on this particular gasket? I don't recall the book saying, and last time I just used sealant instead of this gasket and the motor leaked a lot of oil from there (which is why I am doing this job again).

Jonesey, do you have the part number just for that one gasket? but if i can get the whole timing gasket kit for $60 then i could see paying that.I don't really need those other gasket, cause mine are really new,so those could be extras if it comes down to it.
Sorry for the delay in responding! My hard drive went bye bye. I just finished fixing it. Anyway, NAPA only showed the gasket available as part of the set. So, I just went ahead and bought the whole set from them.
