help, it just shut off & its not the battery

Last night I was driving, everything was perfectly fine, no accessory lights or anything and all of a sudden it just shut off. I mean, all of my lights, radio, everything stayed on, but all the gauges just went flat and I coasted to the side of the road. When I turned it off, and tried to start it back up, there was nothing. I'm talking no noises at all, it didnt even try. All the lights still work, everything, just no start up. 2002 Sunfire se, please help. I am new at this and so lost. =/

first, check that the thick positive wire is attached to the starter properly. then, check for loose cables/grounds/wires, blown fuses, and how do you know it's not the battery? a lot of times a battery can say it has twelve volts, but as soon as you try to put ANY load on it, it'll drop like a stone down to like 2 or less volts. battery age doesnt mean anything, i've seen batteries installed one day come back the next completely flat, no chance of revival.

i dont think it is the battery because why would all of my lights, chimes and what not still work?

because they dont draw all that much. especially in 02, all the cluster lights are leds.

like i said, start at the positive connection at the starter.

Inspect the fuses of the items that are not working.

My wife's 2003 Ecotec 2.2 liter Sunfire:
* 2 1/4 inch turbo muffler
* 2 1/4 piping to a 2 1/2 inch resonator
* 2 1/4 inch catalytic converter
* 2 1/2 inch down-pipe
* a match ported 4:2:1 RK Sports 'clone' header
* an AEM true cold air intake NOPI edition
* 8 gauge ground wire kit
* Toyz front strut brace
* Vibrant rear strut brace
* and Russell stainless steel brake lines all around.

My wife had the same thing happen to her while driving our '02 Z24 one day. Apparently the fuel pump went bad, which according to our mechanic is a fairly common problem. Also, clogged fuel injectors could cause the same issue.
