About an hour ago I am driving along and my
#1 - idiot lights for ABS/Theft System/Air Bag/Brakes/Seat Belt all light up and the Daytime Running light idiot light starts flashing.
#2 - A few seconds later the tach and temp gauge die and the idiot lights for oil/Coolant/Battery all go on in addition to 1 above.
#1 remains constant, #2 becomes intermittent gages dead etc for 10-60 seconds and then on for 1-20 seconds
Get it home park it for a few minutes, drive around the block and is the same. Then #1 changes intermittently form #1 to
#3 - DRL idiot light flashing and Airbag + ABS idiot lights on or
#4 - DRL idiot light flashing + ABS light on or
#5 - DRL idiot light flashing + Air Bag idiot light on
# 2 will happen intermittently during #3, #4, #5, as it did with #1
DRLs do not work when DRL idiot light flashing
A/C runs and light by switch is green but not cold when #2 happens.
EVERYTHING else works fine and car runs normal
Car is a 1997 Z-24 with 103,000 miles. Never in an accident and never had electrical problems other than a bad window motor .
You check the wires where they bolt to the fuse box under the hood?I had the bolt come loose once and the car does some crazy @!#$.Jiggle the harness around and see if it makes a difference.

Shook and banged fuse box under the hood and the side of the dash, Shook every wiring harness under the hood I could fin. Banged the dash in a number of places but have not stuck my hand under the dash yet, No effect on anything. Also bumps, hard acceleration and braking have no effect.
Owners manual say flashing DRL idiot light may be bad relay. Anybody know where it is located.
Anybody have a wiring diagram or harness diagram. These things are on different circuits (fuses).
I dont know man.Sounds like a loose wire somewhere.U sure ur alternator isnt going out?Could be low voltage causing those lights to come on.The alternator belt didnt break did it?haha.

Not the alt, headlights remain strong. also for whatever it is worth the check engine light has not come on.
Maybe you connection is loose where the wiring harness plugs into the gauge cluster?
OK, I think I may have it. Web searches leads me to suspect that it may be a problem with a ground off the neg cable that connects to the tray. Took a quick look and the tray is shot, I have called around but can't find a new tray and all the universals are plastic. I will jump the ground to somewhere else to check. next problem is finding a tray every part store I called only carry plastic universal trays.
anyone know where i can get a metal tray without going to the dealer?
Problems Solved!!!
Could not figure how to remove tray but just as well. Much easier to mount the ground that was attached to the tray to the radiator support. The attachment tab, attachment bolt, nut and corner of the tray that had broken off was one corroded rusted lump. Cleaned it and the splice up and wrapped it with electrical tape. I opened a hole on the radiator support for the nut to sit, drilled a hole in the tab and radiator support and screwed it down with a self tapping sheet metal screw after wire wheeling away some paint.
If you do it make sure it does not interfere with the prop rod when it is down
All I need to do now is hit it with some black paint.
BTW The hood release cable is attached to the battery the bottom of the battery tray and is pretty well shot fron corrosion, next repair to be done.

Late reply on this one but I need some help here.
A few months ago, I noticed the ground wire was frayed fuzzy and blue around the connection on the tray were talking about here. It was not repairable so I set out to the closest auto parts store to find a replacement, they didnt have a oem type with the ground for the tray so i just bought a long wire to run from battery to ground on trans.
Since I have replaced this wire, not having the ground on the batt tray I am experiencing all the above symptoms, I have posted numerous threads and little avail until now.
What do I do? run an extra ground to the tray or do i have to go to the dealer and buy the ground wire with the extra strap??
Please help me on this one RICH T and others
Buy any ground wire that'll fit on your battery and attach it to a clean spot on your body (I'd get a 4 gauge). You don't need to go to the dealer.

Almost certainly the solution solution. I really have no expertise on J-Cars, I am the original owner of daily driver Z-24*, I suspect as with other cars the engine and transmission have rubber mounts. Hence an engine ground and a body ground.

Absolutely. That's why we have separate grounds. Solid mounts would be brutal.
