Odometer going crazy---keyless entry trouble too!
Wednesday, July 01, 2009 10:21 PM
I have a few minor problems with my 00 Sunfire GT, not big problems but still annoying...

1. My odometer has a mind of its own... sometimes it will display the milage and others some hylogliphics I have no clue?? when I push on the reset button the numbers usually come in clear.. or I bang on the dash and that works sometimes too.

I never really got to look behind the dash, but could it/ is it loose wiring?? or the lights inside the odometer??

2. I bought a replacement keyless fob when i got the car.. worked fine until one day I locked my keys in the car and set off the alarm.. I got in through the sunroof and without thinking like an ass... I just popped the hood and pulled a fuse... dont remember which one .. batt i thiink...so the alarm would go off instead of simply starting the car.
SInce then for some unknown reason my passenger door will not unlock using the keyless entry... it locks but doesnt unlock... it locks and unlocks using the manual button inside the door... but not with the key fob.... did pulling the fuse have anything to do with it??? and how can I fix it... not a important problem but I hate having to unlock the door with the key for the gf...

3... the car is an r-title and the radio says calibrate... has monsoon system... how can i get this to go away?

I can tell you that with your radio, your gonna have to go to the dealership. They have to program the radio to re-learn the new VIN number to unlock the radio. Some dealerships charge for this, some don't. When I had mine done...they didn't charge me.

Ive been having the same odometer problem for a good while now. Im assuming its a loose connection as I can tap the dash in front of the odometer and the display corrects itself for a moment. Another clue is it started not long after I pulled the dash cover to remove and paint the bevel.

The odometer in my 2000 Sunfire also had the same problem. Replace the cluster.
