I have a 96 Z24, last year the trans died, and I just recently replaced it. I got the trans out of a Sunfire which had the 4-speed auto trans and I'm guessing a 2.4 as it was already gone ( there was barely anything left of the car). The problem I'm having is the trans lines are different between the 2. One the original line, where they connect to the trans, both upper and lower are the same length, about 1 inch each. But the new trans, from the sunfire, the upper is about 2 inches and the lower is 1 inch. I seems the trans from the Sunfire is a bit different. I'm thinking it's from a 97 or 98. Both are 4t40-E but differ slightly (the Sunfire trans line hookup is offset and there's extra mounting holes which are not used). Now, I have my original lines and the new trans had the lines attached, but the lower was cut (upper is still good). Does anyone know for certain the year of the Sunfire trans, is it possible for me to cut the mounting plate in half and (between the upper and lower) and maybe weld em together, or is a new line necessary? Local dealership wants over $100 for the damn thing and they are crazy if I'm gonna pay that much. I can always hit a bone-yard, but I'll probably break more lines removing them. Any suggestions?
pics would help allot on this one, when i did mine everything matched right up, and those lines sound really short to me. another place you might be able to get the lines is

No worries. In 97 they changed the holes / mounting on the trans. The upper hole is now set back about 3/8" insted of both being even. 96 and earlier were .If I remember correctly, they were 26 mm each. The 97 to ?? are 26mm lower and 32 mm upper. These measurements are for the part of the line that actually slides into the trans. Found the correct lines at a local shop for $57. The GM part # is 22615813 for anybody that may need it in the future. Not sure if it comes with the spacer for the upper line or not as I didn't purchase them yet.
