this is for my 99 cavalier 2.2 engine.135,000 miles. When the temperature is above about 80 degrees outside, the engine cranks without starting for about 5 or 6 seconds before finally starting and sometimes after the engine is running,it runs rough for a few seconds and then clears up and runs fine. this is the 1st start of the day. the car starts fine after it has already been started and shut off. the engine starts great in temps below about 70 degrees clear down below zero. I have a code reader, and checked for codes, but there are none. A friend i work with has the same year car as mine, and his is doing the same thing. any ideas? thanks!!
Could have a an failed temp sending unit?. Or youre coil packs are on their way of no good?.
is there any way to test the temp sending unit? The car has been doing this for at least 3 years that I know of(was doing it for the previous owner also),so if it was the coil packs wouldn't they have completely failed by now?
well, the temp sending unit can be ruled out,put a new one in,no change in the way the car starts. any other ideas?
My car does the same exact thing. 01 sunfire with 118k miles. i've replaced the ICM and coils on mine so far with used ones i picked up at the junkyard. It made no change though. keeping an eye on this thread to see if you find the problem.
Listening is as well. Similiar issue...
