I just crashed my 2004 Pontiac sunfire it has a 2.2 ecotec motor and a 5 speed trans, just wondering what year cars this will fit.
Dont take my word for final, but the 03-05 cavaliers and sunfires should be the exact same. Will fit perfectly. Also, people swap ecotecs into 00-02 3rd gens all the time. Not sure though how much modification it takes. If any.
Post in the maintenance section with a title like "what years have this engine?" and see what kind of replys you get.
How much work do you want to do to make it fit? What cars are you looking at?

I am looking for basically a simple engine and transmission swap with little to no modifying
It will bolt into any 00-05 Cavalier or Sunfire that originally came with a 5 speed.
If you weld in new transmission mounts, it will bolt into any 95-99 J-body... or 00-05 that originally came with an automatic. Since you have the whole car... you have all the parts and wiring harness if you wanted to, say, gut a 95 and swap everything over (and I mean everything... dash, wiring, fuel tank, brake lines, master cylinder, airbags, etc...) to make the 95 into an 04.

So will the transmission bolt right into one that already had a 5 speed or are you saying that I would still need to weld in new transmission mounts
You guys have been a great help thanks,
As I said.. it will bolt right into any J-body car that is of the 2000-05 model years, and originally came with a 5 speed transmission. So if you had a 2000 base model 2.2L pushrod... you could swap it right in... as long as it came with a 5 speed.
If you're trying to put it into a car that came with an automatic transmission... or a 95-99 car (either manual or automatic)... you will need to weld in new transmission mounts.
Thanks a lot this is exactly what I needed, Thanks again.
