this is exactly what my engine is doing-and its coming from the exact same spot on the same engine & year-can someone please help me figure this out?!?!
this pushrod isnt bent as far as i can tell (checked with good straight edge)-i have the valve cover off right now-the rockers seem a smidge loose but dont seem to want to tighten any more altho i dont have my tq wrench right now.
my car-96 sunfire auto with 2.2-previous owner claims headgasket/timing set was done as well as having the head milled for a flat surface (he didnt say how much)-also claimed that it sat with the bad head gasket so it spun a bearing & the rod/main bearings were replaced.
what could this be? i need to get this fixed as soon as possible so i have a car to get to work in! -any help is greatly appreciated!!
no one? im going to take the oil pan off tomorrow & check the rods, anybody know of anything else it might be-or if it might just be knocking hardcore?
i feel so bad for you if your car sounds like that. do check the rods, better safe than sorry. did you try running a higher octane to see if the knocking went away? usually that works to keep from getting detonation which just means you have hardcore carbon buildup or something. just saying what i "know". i'm not an expert so dont quote me all the way but i would still check the motor out just to make sure nothing is wrong

i appreciate your help, im actually about positive its the rods because the valve train doesnt appear to be tapping at all, so tonight im taking off the oilpan to see what weve got & if the crank journal is scarred all to hell from me running the crap out of it when i first drove it, & if its not bad ill throw the rod bearing in & see how she runs-if it is bad...
out comes the 2.2, in goes the 3.1
