hey guys
so i have a 2000 cavalier
and i have a coolant leak. i figured out whereabouts its coming from but i can only see so much. it is coming from around the air conditioning pump. but it cant come from the actual ac right? is the water pump right above the ac, cause it looks like it is.
also i wanted to put in some radiator stop leak which may help... but on the directions it says 'do no pour into resivoir tank, pour directly into coolant' what does this mean? i only see the resivoir tank so im a bit confused.
any and all help will be great!
thanks
mark
sorry bout not searching first... lol but just please help
i am part of other forums and this one is confusing... i dont even know how to edit posts!!lol
also i am going up to a cottage thursday and i need this car. would it be okay to drive 3 hours?
or if i can find a quick solution before and then send it into my mechanic next week would be fantastic!
Sounds like it's leaking from the water pump. If this is the case and it's the shaft seal that's leaking (high likelyhood), then stop leak will do you no good. Stop leak will only help (temporarily) if you have a pin hole in the system somewhere (ie: radiator, heater core) that can be plugged by thick gunk for a while until a proper repair is made. It's normally added directly to the radiator so it can circulate immediately throughout the system. Adding it to the reservoir tank isn't recommended as the tanks are normaly upstream of the radiator caps (not the case on your car). I wouldn't recommend you drive it three hours.
mostlikely a dexcool related issue i had that on one of the js before it turned out the lower rad hose, a seal round the pump and the res tank all roted away i drove mine from ny to va beach with it and it was a cool 7hrs straight no probs just stop n check it, and also when we came home from a trip to virginia my buddys grand am had a coolant issue and only 20k on it and we just bought a bottle before we left and checked alll the way home and fine so aslong as your not beating on it and check it often should be ok just get perm fix soon.
