Throttle Cuts Out

K 03' ecotec. What could cause it to cut throttle out while driving? I was cruising the highway at about 130km/hr the other day when the throttle cut out like it does when it hits the governor cept I wasn't going fast enough for that to be the case. Throttle never came back it idled down until it stalled and then restarted and drove just fine. It did the same thing yesterday in a parking lot too. Only thing I can think of is fuel pump acting up but is there something else I should look at?

Are u getting check engine light on?. I would these cheap trouble shooting first be fore thinking of spend huge cash. How many miles on the motor?, How long has it been since u have had a tune up? Fuel & air filter been changed lately?. Of coruse Get a fuel pressure test done, That will tell u if the fuel pump is no good.

Good Luck

Keep us updated.

Engine light is on due to an O2 sensor would that cause it? it has about 120'000kms on it. tune up done about 6 months ago, plugs, fuel filter and I cleaned out the throttle body a month and a half ago. it has a 2 month old CAI. Today it has started not wanting to start, turns over quite a bit before it will start.

K after looking through the forums on just stalling I'm seeing it to be somtimes an ECU issue. Is this only at low speed and stalling at idle?

Well fix the O2 sensor, The work from there, I would recommend getting a fuel pressure test.

Okay so O2 sensor replaced today. Fixed my gas guzzling issue, but it's still stalling and hard starting. Noticed another symptom though that I hadn't realized was related. Could hear a clicking or buzzing sound that I thought was coming from under the dash but it has turned out to be coming from the fuel pump relay under the hood. Tried a new relay and it still makes the noise when the the key is turned to the on position. Figured out that the car doesn't want to start when it's making this noise. Have to retry the ingition a few times then the noise stops and car starts. If replaceing the relay didn't fix does anyone have any other ideas? I checked the wiring harness from the fuel pump under the seat and in the hood, I can't see any signs of there being an issue in the wiring. Thinking possible grounding issue but I'm not sure where to look for that.

Oh and is there a way to pressure test the fuel system myself or does that have to be done at a dealer?

Any ideas would be helpful. I'm no up for spending 400$ on a pump if that's not what's wrong. Pressure test showed the pump working fine but if it's intermitant I'm not sure if a pressure test is going to tell me anything.

If you are doing a pump, you might aswell replace the factory one with a racetronixs on. half the price and a better pump.

If the car is clicking and not starting, that usually is the starter.

As for the stalling issue, my 03 did it last summer but i had the ECU retuned for my S/C and it stopping doing it.

The starter's fine the clicking sound is coming from the fuel pump relay. It does eventually start but now usually stalls right away or stalls once it's put in gear. Fuel pressure test showed normal, changed the relay and the relay continued to buzz and click.

Hey I had similar problems. I replaced spark plugs and those boot thing's inside the coil pack with the little springs. Think they were around 40$ then cost of spark plug.

Heather get rid of the eco and go to a 2.4 lol, then problems are gone lol, I keep seeing these problems and I never get them on my built motor lol, only thing happens is check engine light due to rear O2 lol

IF the relay is doing what your saying its doing (IE its buzzing indicating it is oscillating) that is probably your issue. Either that or the fuel pump is on its way out and it is locking up intermittantly.

I would go after the whole fuel pump and fuel pump control circuit before you go after any expensive parts.

Ordered a fuel pump for it, I'll leave an update on if it fixes the problem. The cars has been dropping problem after problem on me, I'm about ready to burn it and claim the inurance lol. Engine light came back on, ran the codes and apparently my cat kicked the bucket, can hear it rattle. And I have yet to figure out the reason behind my abs and ebrake light coming on, not throwing an abs code and the sensor wiring harnesses are all in good shape. Not about to spend the money to replace all the sensors. Ugh I want my old sunfire back lol 340'000 kms on it and it never game me an issue.
