Timing Chain Tensioner

Hey everyone thanks for looking at my pasting. Well i had recently torn down my motor and im about done putting it back together altho i have one question... When i torn down the engine was there something i was supposed to do with the timing chain tensioner as far as like anything to make it hold its pressure? I just took it out and now when i put it back in it has no pressure, im assuming when the engine gets oil pressure it will be fine i just had to ask? the book said something maybe about a pin or something but was not very clear. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Sam

its a 01 2.4L right? if so you need to put it in then use a screwdriver or something to push it in even farther... it will release and put spring tension on the chain. it took me a while to figure this out the first time i took it out.

Yes it is a 2001 2.4 L thank you so much man...so push the little cylinder peice into the sleeve and it will set it to push against the chain? Hopefully ill get a chance to mess with it tonight. Thanks again!!

When you have all the timing components together, make sure you rotate the crank a few times to make sure its timed right, and that the tensioner hold pressure against the chain.

Not to jack your thread but I'm in the process of changing my timing chain tensioner and was curious to know if when replacing it should I replace the chain and the guides along so.
Thank you for any input.
