So as the title may imply I have a Cavy here with a problem. My car is a 1998 Cavalier LS 2.2L 4 speed automatic with 186,000 miles. When I shift the car from Park to Drive, I get a to hear and feel a nice THUMP from the transmission. When I go from Reverse to Drive, no issues (unless it's cold, and its a much milder thump.) I wanted to check the transmission fluid and come to find out the damn thing doesn't have a dipstick, just a lousy red screw/cover thing. And to check the levels I would need to crawl under the car and open up the check hole in the transmission. This sucks.
The car has had the transmission mount replaced about 3 or so years ago. When the car is in motion, the transmission shifts perfectly and smoothly. Any idea's what this problem would be?
Any idea's or help is greatly appreciated.
Also I need to replace the headlight switch. Low beams don't work. Do I need to remove the steering wheel, or can I just remove the cowling and access it that way?
My old car used to do this BAD when I was parked on an incline. The motor mount was whomped out and let the motor move a ton. Try a new motor mount or a prothane one
^ agreed. My '97 Cav had a hell of a lot of engine mount slop, and the gear selections made it sound like something was about to break.
